Role Overview This is an excellent opportunity for a Tax Accountant to join a growing tax compliance function. The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing a varied client portfolio, ensuring the accurate completion of tax obligations, and providing technical input on a range of compliance and advisory matters. The role also involves liaising with tax authorities, supporting junior team members, and contributing to the ongoing enhancement of internal processes. Key Responsibilities Client Portfolio Management: Oversee a diverse portfolio of clients from different sectors, ensuring all income tax computations, tax returns, refund applications, and related filings are accurately prepared and reviewed. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all submissions meet statutory requirements, maintaining consistently high standards of precision, completeness, and timeliness. Client Advisory & Support: Provide clear, practical guidance to clients on tax compliance matters and transactional issues, ensuring advice is commercially relevant and technically sound. Tax Authority Liaison: Act as a primary contact for interactions with Maltese tax authorities, managing correspondence, queries, and discussions on behalf of clients. Team Contribution & Development: Review work prepared by junior colleagues, offering constructive feedback, technical direction, and mentoring to support their professional growth, while also contributing to improved internal workflows. Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes Education: A recognised accounting qualification is required, or the candidate must be in the final stages of completing ACCA or an equivalent professional qualification. Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience within accounting, including at least 2 years specifically focused on tax compliance and direct taxation, ideally within a client-facing or corporate environment. Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to both clients and internal stakeholders. Interpersonal Skills: Confident in building and maintaining professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and external authorities. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of income tax compliance processes, statutory filings, and proficiency in accounting systems such as Xero, alongside strong Microsoft Office capability. Organisation: Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise a varied workload effectively. Self-Motivated: Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical ability to interpret tax regulations and apply them effectively to client situations.
