Job Description

Inspection and Diagnostics: Conduct regular inspections of mechanical components (hoist, trolleys, boom, gantry) to identify wear, corrosion, misalignment, and fatigue. Use visual inspection techniques and methods to detect internal defects in load- bearing structures and critical components. Employ vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis to diagnose the condition of moving parts and bearings. Component Replacement and adjustment: Replace worn- out parts such as cables, wire ropes, sheaves, bearings, gears, brakes, and hydraulics components. Adjust tension in cables and wire ropes, align mechanical linkages, and calibrate hoisting mechanisms for precise operations, Hydraulic and Pneumatic System Maintenance: Inspect and service hydraulic cylinder, pumps, valves, and hoses for leaks, pressure loss, or wear. Ensure pneumatic system are functioning correctly, checking for air leaks or blockages that might reduce efficiency. Hoist and Gantry motor Maintenance: Service electric and hydraulic motors, inspecting for electrical insulation failure, bearing wear, and rotor imbalance. Conduct testing on motor windings, insulation resistance, and current ;oads to ensure optimal performance. Typical repair services include. Structural Repairs: Repairs cracks or deformities in the crane’s load – bearing structure, including the boom, gantry, and trolley frames. Reinforce weakened joints through welding or replacement of worn sections with new materials. Mechanical Repairs: Overhaul or replace defective hoisting mechanisms, such as winches, wire ropes, or sheave blocks. Repair or replace malfunctioning gearboxes, drives, and bearing assemblies. Brake and safety Mechanisms Repair: Service or replace faulty braking system (disc, drum, or electromagnetic brakes) to ensure safe crane operation. Repair limit switches, sensors, and full-safe devices to restore compliance with safem regulations. Lubrication of Wire Ropes and Cables: Apply specialised lubricants to wire ropes to reduce friction and prevent corrosion from saltwater exposure. Inspect for kinks, wear, or corrosion during lubrication routines. Bearing and Gear Lubrication: Apply grease or oil to bearing, gears and shafts to ensure smooth movement and to prevent overheating and metal-to-metal contact. Monitor grease condition and quantity, replenishing it to the recommended levels. Lubrication of Hydraulic System: Ensure hydraulic system are properly lubricated to minimise wear on pistons, seals, and valves. Replace or top up hydraulic fluids to maintain system pressure and performance. Guide Rail and Wheel Assemblies: Lubricate guide rails and wheels assemblies to prevent jamming or excessive wear from friction during crane movement along its gantry. JobsinMalta
